Abducted Techie gang-raped on outskirts

HYDERABAD: What was thought to be an attempted sexual assault on a 22-year-old techie on the city outskirts last Friday has turned out to be a horrific gang-rape.

The incident, which sent shock waves across the city, came to light Tuesday after the Cyberabad police arrested the accused, V Satish (30) and N Venkateswarlu (28), on charges of kidnapping, raping and intimidating the girl. Producing them before the media, Cyberabad Police Commissioner CV Anand gave a chilling account of the sequence of events of the fateful night.

Satish, a car driver from Warangal district, and his associate Venkateswarlu ' both work for a certain Manoj Agarwal, manager of the Alexandria Construction Company which is listed on the New York Stock Exchange ' set out in a Volvo luxury car belonging to him on Friday night with the intention of raping any girl.

The unsuspecting techie, who came out of a mall, boarded the car around 8.45 p.m. near the Mind Space Junction. She had been waiting for an auto but got into the four-wheeler as it's common in the area to travel in cabs.

She was to go to her hostel at Gowlidoddi in Gachibowli. The duo told her they would drop her at the hostel. But, they took the ORR service road to the AP Police Academy and proceeded up to Kolluru exit where they committed the crime.

Although the girl raised an alarm, there was none to help her in the isolated area near the Open Mind Birla School on the Tellapur road. One by one, both forced themselves on the victim.

After the six-hour ordeal, they dropped her near her hostel with a warning to be silent, which was why the girl at first said it was an abduction attempt. 'The video footage we had was blurred. We took the help of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to enhance the blurred footage of the CCTV cameras which led to cracking the case,' CV Anand said.

Venkateswarlu claimed Satish had forced him to rape the girl and threatened to kill him if he didn't. Venkateswarulu from Nalgonda district is an office boy while Satish is the personal driver of Agarwal.

Both have been staying together at Yellammabanda in Kukatpally. Agarwal, who was out of station Friday, is a resident of the Malaysian Township in Kukatpally. He has taken the car on lease from an agency in Jubilee Hills for his use.
