On verge of suicide after six-hour ordeal HYDERABAD: Abhaya ' the name the Cyberabad Police have given to the rape victim ' was initially in shock and on the verge of committing suicide. She was even reluctant to lodge a complaint while the accused were 'confident' she would not dare approach the police.
According to Janaki Sharmila, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, (crime), Cyberabad, the rapists had threatened to come back or send their friends if the girl told anyone about the incident.
'She didn't tell anyone anything about the rape for one whole day because she was warned by the rapists. However, once the medical tests were conducted, we got to know about it,' said Sharmila.
It took a lot of counselling for the girl to change her mind and finally muster enough courage to explain everything to the police. Sharmila said the victim had sent text messages to her friend after she got into the car and did not notice initially that she was being taken somewhere else. 'It was her inattention for about 10-15 minutes that gave the rapists the opportunity to take another route,' she said.
Later, when the girl tried calling her friend, the accused snatched her phone. Sharmila said she was with the victim till Tuesday and had been counselling her to ensure that she was okay psychologically.
'She is completely fine now, and is back to normal,' the officer said. She also said the task of identifying the accused and the car had become harder as all the CCTV cameras installed on the way were out of order, and not even one toll booth the car passed by had noted down the vehicle number.
