Telangana to get 4,000 MW thermal plant Hyderabad: Assuring full support to the State government, Union Power and Coal Minister Piyush Goyal on Sunday said that NTPC was committed to setting up a 4,000 MW thermal power plant in Telangana with a 1,600 MW unit in the first phase to ease power crisis the State.
Addressing a press conference via video uplink from New Delhi, the Minister said that the Centre had assured Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Saturday during the meeting that the thermal power unit would be set up on a war footing with sufficient allocation from Coal India Limited.
'On his part, the CM has come forward with a proposition to allot 5,000 acre in Mahbubnagar for the project. We will ensure that the project goes through at the earliest,' said the minister.
He said that the Centre was concerned about the power crisis that Telangana has been experiencing since bifurcation and promised to allocate additional coal to the state. This additional coal would be used to increase the installed capacity of already existing power plants in the state, he said.
The minister said that the State was already being provided 100 MW of electricity through the national grid. 'Centre is keen to help. We are already providing 100 MW of electricity, which the state can enjoy until March 31, 2015,' he said.
Goyal revealed that he had asked the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh governments to resolve the power sharing issue as per the AP Reorganisation Act. He stated that AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was willing to work with the Telangana government to resolve disputes on power sharing.
