Flood situation stable but threat to EG stays
RAJAHMUNDRY: Flood water level at Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage at Dowleswaram was stable at 16.30 feet Tuesday. All the gates of the barrage were lifted to let 17 lakh cusecs water into the sea. The second flood warning is still continuing and the third warning will be issued if the water level reaches 17.50 feet.
As many as 590 people from Rajahmundry Urban, Alamuru, Devipatnam and Gannavaram mandals were shifted to relief camps. Besides, 203 people from the river bund area of Rajahmundry mandal, 55 persons of Ketavarilanka, 54 persons from Bridgevanilanka and 50 people from other low-lying areas were shifted to relief camps.
As many as 29 people belonging to Jonnadalanka of Alamur mandal, 15 people of Veeravaram of Devipatnam mandal, 150 persons of Toyyeru mandal, 150 of Y Kothapalli village in P Gannavaram mandal were shifted. Nineteen boats were pressed into service to ferry people from the low-lying areas to relief camps.
Transportation was stalled for 36 villages in Devipatnam mandal in the Agency area and 38 villages in Konaseema area. Some paddy fields in the Konaseema region were submerged in the flood water.
Collector Neetu Prasad inspected various flood-affected areas in Gannavaram mandal and other areas of the Konaseema region. Deputy CM Nimmakayala Chinarajappa also inspected various flood-hit areas in Konaseema.
The collector, officials of the irrigation, revenue, police, panchyat raj and other departments were alerted.
