Rajamundry to turn into a 'Smart' city
RAJAHMUNDRY: As part of its initiative to turn Rajahmundry into a Smart City, the Union government has sanctioned a Petroleum University and an Information technology (IT) hub on the recommendation of the state government to that effect.
Both the facilities will be set up on the National Highway No. 16 between Rajahmundry and Rajanagaram. For this, the government has identified 760 acres of forest land and sent proposals to the Union government to de-notify. The Petroleum University will be set up with the funds sanctioned by the Union government.
Besides, the state government has decided to shift the Potti Sriramulu Telugu University campus to Bommuru in Rajahmundry from Hyderabad. The existing government headquarters hospital also will be upgraded as a super-specialty hospital. A stadium will be built on an 8-acre site belonging to the Central Jail.
Speaking to reporters here, Rajahmundry Rural MLA Gorantla Buchaiah Choudary said all the works would be grounded shortly. Proposals to a tune of Rs 496 crore were sent to the government for permanent protection to the city from floods.
The Municipal Corporation of Rajahmundry had sent proposals worth Rs 270 crore for Godavari Pushakaram works, he said and added that vacant space was available in the Rajahmundry Rural constituency for construction of 30,000 houses to the poor.
Buchaiah Choudary said plans were afoot to implement the NTR Sujala Sravanthi scheme in Rajahmundry. Surveyors would be appointed to identify government lands in Rajahmundry Rural constituency, he added. Mayor Pantham Rajani Sai was present.
