TANA to install Bapu's statue in Narsapuram Hyderabad, September: The Telugu Association of North America (TANA) will install the statue of the late artiste and film director Bapu in Narsapuram, West Godavari on the banks of the Godavari river on his birth anniversary on December 15, 2014.
Mohan Nannapaneni, President of TANA said that this was a tribute to the legendary artiste, who passed away recently but has earned a place for himself in every Telugu person through his paintings, illustrations, cartoons and films.
He said the NRI Telugu community in USA cherishes its long lasting association and the bonds it developed with him. The TANA Secretary, Satish Vemana will coordinate with Bapu's family to install the statue.
Recalling Bapu's association with TANA, Mohan said the legendary figure was a special invitee at the 1985 TANA conference in Los Angeles where a special exhibition of his art was held.
Later in 1995, at the 10 Conference in Chicago, TANA had the privilege of celebrating the Golden Jubilee anniversary of the first publication of works by Bapu and his close friend and collaborator Mullapudi Venkata Ramana.
He said TANA commissioned a special book, Bomma- Borusu, to celebrate the occasion and the contributions Bapu and Ramana made to Telugu culture. A special art exhibition and a retrospective of his films were also held to mark the occasion.
He said Bapu has regularly and generously contributed illustrations and paintings to TANA Patrika, the popular magazine of TANA, and to several TANA Conference Souvenirs over the years.
Mohan said TANA Patrika also serialised Bapu's illustrated narratives of the great epics Ramayana and Bhagavatha, to familiarise the Telugu American children with their cultural heritage.
Satish Vemana said that an exhibition of Bapu's paintings and cartoons is being planned at the forthcoming TANA Conference to be held in Detroit on July 2 to 4 next year.
