KCR names Doordarshan's Telangana channel as Yadagiri Hyderabad, September 24: The bifurcation effect has been witnessed in the government-owned Doordarshan as the decks have been cleared by Telangana government. The existing Saptagiri' channel will be delegated to Andhra Pradesh, with Telangana getting a brand new channel.
The Telangana officials of the Information and Broadcasting department have decided to name the new channel as Yadagiri and it has been approved by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
The current DD Sapthagiri will continue to cater the needs of Andhra Pradesh state. It is currently headquartered at Hyderabad. DD Saptagiri will be shifted to Vijaywada station as a 24-hour channel.
The channel will start its broadcasting from 27th of this month. The channel name is taken into consideration after spiritual place Yadagirigutta in respect of Telangana people.
Before 1995 Doordarshan Hyderabad was the only television channel broadcasting Telugu programs. The channel maintained its monopoly till private channels were launched in 1996.
Doordarshan Kendra Hyderabad was inaugurated by the then President of India, Neelam Sanjiva Reddy on 23 October,1977. The service has been extended to the entire state in a phased manner by installing Terrestrial Transmitters of different capacities (HPTs, LPTs, VLPTs) in different parts of the state.
With this latest step by the Telangana government, the bifurcation has finally occurred in the Doordarshan also.
