KCR writes to Modi over levy rice Hyderabad, Sept 24 (INN): Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar has requested Prime Minister Narender Modi to retain the rice mill levy percentage at 75 per cent.
In a letter written to the Prime Minister, KCR said that the Department of Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, has reduced the rice mill levy percentage from 75 to 25 from the Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2014-15.
"Chief Secretary and Minister for Finance and Civil Supplies of Telangana State have already requested the Secretary to Government of India Food and the Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution respectively to retain the percentage of levy at 75%.
Our Government is awaiting the reply to our Minister's letter. I would like to request you to consider the problems enunciated in the letter of the Minister for finance and Civil Supplies of our State and keeping in view the problems mentioned therein, orders may kindly be issued retaining the levy percentage at 75%," he said.
"In case for any reasons, it is not possible to retain the percentage at 75%, it may at least be fixed at 50% so that the farmers are not put to much hardship," the Chief Minister added.
