HC convicts three accused for bid to assassinate Naidu Hyderabad, Sept 25 (INN): More than 11 years after the Alipiri blast, the High Court on Thursday convicted three accused for attempting to assassinate TDP president Nara Chandrababu Naidu.
Naidu, the then Chief Minister, his ministerial colleague B Gopalakrishna Reddy and two other MLAs were injured when their convoy was targeted with a claymore mine blast at Alipiri in 2003. The Chief Minister was proceeding to participate in the Tirumala Srivari Brahmotsavalu celebrations.
The court convicted Rammohan Reddy, Narasimha Reddy alias Rajashekhar and M Chandra alias Keshavulu for four years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs 500 each. They were among the 33 persons originally named as accused in the case. The accused were found guilty under Sections 307 and 107 A of IPC.
