Land acquisition for Capital to begin VIJAYAWADA: With a section of the farmers in the capital region showing reluctance to offer their lands under the proposed land-pooling system to build a brand new capital for Andhra Pradesh, chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has made it clear that the government would not hesitate to invoke the Land Acquisition Act if the situation demands so.
'We have the Land Acquisition Act to acquire necessary land,' Naidu said when asked what would he do if farmers refused to part with their land for the capital.
Despite immense pressure to locate the capital at Donakonda or other places, he had decided to build it close to an existing city under the land-pooling system only because it would lead to a win-win situation for farmers and the government, Naidu said at a press conference after launching the NTR Sujala Sravanthi, NTR Bharosa and several other schemes here Thursday.
The value of the land in the capital region had soared due to the government's decision to locate the capital there, he pointed out. Naidu said the government would conduct awareness programmes for farmers on the benefits of land development under the land-pooling system.
The Vijayawada region is the most suitable place for construction of the capital city. 'If we take up constructions on either side of the Krishna river, it would become the best capital city,' he explained. The government would choose the world's best infrastructure companies to build the capital, he said.
