Kalam calls for use of modern technology in farming ANANTAPUR: Former President of India APJ Abdul Kalam expressed concern about the pathetic conditions faced by farmers in the country and appealed to the youth to take up cultivation as a profession by implementing modern technology.
While launching Primary Sector Mission in Agriculture as part of the 'Janmabhumi-Maa Vooru' programme at Garudapuram village of Kalyanadurgam mandal in Anantapur district, he urged people to achieve a second green revolution in the country through modern science and technology.
He stated that in India 62% percent of population is dependant on agriculture out of which only 17% are producing food grains. He called for creation of awareness among farmers regarding changes in the climate and new cultivation methods.
In 2006, when he was the President he met nearly 6000 farmers of the country and discussed their problems, he said. Former President lauded the Anantapur district people for their hard work. He said that there should be a water grid from Srikakulam to Anantapur as both districts are drought-prone. On this occasion he undertook a pledge at the gathering on various issues.
Before participating in the public meeting chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, former President APJ Abdul Kalam visited the stalls installed by various departments of the state government near Krishi Vigyan kendra at Kalyandurgam. CM explained to the Abdul Kalam about the various schemes of his government depicted in the stalls.
They visited the stall of State government's prestigious Swarnandhra Vision-2029 which envisioned 7 grids, 5 missions, 5 campaigns. CM explained former President regarding 7 grids namely Primary sector mission, Social empowerment mission, Knowledge and skill development mission, Industry sector mission, Infrastructure mission, Service sector mission, Urban development mission and the steps taken by the government so far.
Likewise he elaborated about the campaigns on Pedarikampai Gelupu, Polam pilustondi, Badi pilustondi, Neeru-Chettu, Swacha Andhra programmes.
After that they visited other stalls which were installed by ICRISAT, NG Ranga Agricultural University, Animal husbandry ministry and others.
