Clouds mask Lunar eclipse view, temples remain closed VISAKHAPATNAM: Major temples in the city have been closed for lunar eclipse here Wednesday. Lord Narasimha Swamy's temple at Simhachalam was closed by the temple priests and authorities at 7am. Similarly, other shrines like 'Kanaka Mahalakshmi temple at Burujupeta, Sampath Vinayaka temple at Asilmetta, Venkateswara Swamy temple at Seethammadhara and Polamamba temple were closed since morning.
Many enthusiastic people gathered on roof-tops and terraces to witness the lunar eclipse but were disappointed as the weather was not supportive.
As an eclipse is considered a bad sign, soon after the celestial event devotees thronged the water bodies for a holy dip. People gathered in large numbers at RK Beach, Rushikonda and Bheemili from 7 pm.
After the lunar eclipse, the authorities of various temples started the 'samprokshana' programme to cleanse them with holy water. The programme would be followed by vedic rituals to the deities after which the devotees would be allowed to have 'darshan'.
