'Very Severe' cyclone to hit AP on Oct 12
NEW DELHI: A very severe cyclone, Hudhud, is expected to cross Andhra Pradesh and Odisha on October 12. It may bring in its wake heavy rainfall, over 150 kmph winds and wreak havoc in coastal areas, the Met department warned Wednesday. The National Disaster Response Force has kept six teams ready to handle the situation.
The cyclone will become very severe in the next 36 hours and cross north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coasts between Visakhapatnam and Gopalpur around noon on Oct 12.
'The wind speed range is expected to be 130-140 kmph and may gust up to 155 kmph. The landfall point of the cyclone is likely to remain over the sea,' said Indian Meteorological Department director general LS Rathore.
Heavy rainfall to very heavy rainfall is expected at few places, mainly in Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam in Andhra and Ganjam, Puri and Khurda districts in Odisha. It will be the second major cyclone after Phalian last year.
