Transport in coastal AP comes to a grinding halt VISAKHAPATNAM: With a view to minimise the impact of Cyclone Hudhud, the entire transport system including air, road and rail connectivity has been completely shutdown in the north Coastal Andhra and twin Godavari districts, till normalcy is restored.
While all the flights arriving at and departing Vizag were cancelled till Sunday since Saturday evening, the Indian Railways cancelled over 50 trains on both the days. The road traffic was came to a grinding halt, particularly along the Chennai-Kolkata national highway NH-16, from 7 pm Saturday.
According to the Cyclone Warning Centre, the very severe cyclonic storm is expected to cause severe damage to huge trees, old buildings, electrical and telecommunication poles along the coast Sunday.
Hence, the collectors of the aforesaid five districts strictly instructed the authorities concerned to not allow any vehicles, including RTC buses, between Kakinada and Ichchapuram from Saturday night to Sunday noon. As a result, thousands of people in these districts were forced to postpone their journey and wait for the transport system to resume.
