North Andhra plunges in darkness HYDERABAD: Power blackouts in north coastal districts, in all likelihood, will continue for another four to five days before the power utilities could restore supply.
Cyclone Hudhud had caused extensive damage to power lines and poles. According to Transco sources, given the extensive damage to power cables and even sub-stations, it will take some time to restore power connectivity.
The state government, which had shut power supply to north coastal districts to prevent any causalities, had directed the Transco and discoms to take steps for restoration of power at the earliest.
The sources said during Godavari floods in 1996, it had taken nearly a month to fully resort power connectivity. Now, with modern technology, power restoration works can be completed in less time, they said.
Already, teams are ready to take up restoration works. Regular work is being stopped temporarily for the purpose and the entire manpower has been diverted for restoration of power supply.
Transformers, poles, conductors, insulators, spares etc are kept handy. Diesel sets are ready at all the 400 kv sub-stations and 220 kv sub-stations. APTransco had made alternative communication arrangements as cell phone connective collapsed in cyclone-effected areas.
To lend a helping hand to Transco and APEPDCL staff engaged in power restoration works, nearly 2,000 employees, including divisional engineers, have left their respective places of work in the eight districts under the jurisdiction of the APSPDCL for cyclone-effected districts.
