Rescue teams trying to save girl whe fell into borewell HYDERABAD: A four-year-old girl accidentally slipped into an open borewell at an agricultural field in Manchal mandal, Ranga Reddy district, on Sunday. The incident took place around 10 a.m. when the girl, G Girija, apparently went to play at the family's cotton fields while her grandparents were working at a distance.
Family members turned suspicious when they could not find her. Her brother Charan informed them that he saw her moving in the direction of the borewell.
State Disaster Response Force and Fire Sevices Department, the National Disaster Response Force, police and revenue officials were pressed into service and are in the process of digging up a parallel pit to pullout the girl safely.
According to Manchal police inspector P Jagadeeshwar, the girl was playing and accidentally fell into the borewell. Girija, a resident of Patelguda, was on a visit to her grandparents during the weekend.
The borewell is thought to be about 350 ft deep and was dug up around six months back but is not in use as it had tried up within a few months. Officials felt Girija could not have gone beyond 45-60 ft as the casing pipe has been removed from the well making it narrower for even a little girl to pass through.
In the evening, the State Disaster Response and Fire Services also used a Rescue Locate System, a high tech equipment with camera and microphone attached to it, but could not locate the girl.
As many as seven earth movers were pressed into service since morning. However, till 9.30 p.m. they could excavate only about 30 ft. However, officials appeared confident of finding the girl by midnight.
'Two cylinders of oxygen have been provided in a pipe. We have arranged generators and lighting for the rescue operations. Bigger earth movers are also in,' said an official.
