Srikakulam faces flood threat from Nagavali SRIKAKULAM: The Nagavali river was flooding the low-lying areas of Hudco Colony, Visakha A and Visakha B colonies of Srikakulam town. Officials asked people in areas to shift to safer places. At the Krishna Park area water was waist-deep.
They said 107 villages in 11 mandals were affected by Nagavali floods. YSR Kalyan Mandapam in the town and schools in mandals are being used as shelters.
All the rehabilitation centres had been equipped with potable water, essential items and generator. Officials were directed to see that there was no loss of life.
Already 1,25,000 cusecs of water from Thotapalle and Narayanapuram dam flowed into the Nagavali. Another 1,35,000 cusecs of water was expected from Madduvalasa reservoir into the river.
Since there was a possibility of heavy rain in Chhattisgarh and Odisha, the water level in the Vamsadhara growing abnirmally, people in 25 villages were shifted.
