Jilted maniac attacks girl, commits suicide HYDERABAD: A dejected youth from the city carried out a murderous attack on his former girlfriend as he repeatedly attacked her with a sickle and subsequently consumed poison upon being caught by the onlookers. While the attacker, Ch Pradeep Kumar (21) died, the girl M Ravali (17) is undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital, Secunderabad.
The shocking incident took place at the Aurora Engineering College campus in Bandlaguda in the Old City. It was around 9 am when Ravali entered the college.
Pradeep, dressed in casuals, followed her with a sickle and poison inside his bag. He walked up to her and repeatedly attacked her with the sickle on her head leading to severe injuries. He then slashed her wrist even as other students watched helplessly while the girl fell to the ground.
A lab assistant K Praveen Kumar mustered courage and confronted Pradeep. He hit the attacker with his helmet to prevent him from further attacking Ravali.
In the process, his helmet broke while Pradeep took to his heels. Even as he was trying to run away from the college, he took out a bottle of poison, hurriedly gulped it and collapsed.
Both were rushed to the hospital where Pradeep died later. Police said Pradeep hit Ravali on her head four times with the sickle. Doctors had to sew up as many as 20 stitches on her head.
'The motive seems to be a failed love-related harassment,' Chandrayangutta inspector Rama Rao said, adding the girl was out of danger. Ravali is a BTech Computer Science first-year student and had joined the college last month.
