Damage to Vizag Steel plant less than Rs 50 Crore VISAKHAPATNAM: The Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), is yet to complete assessment of the damage caused due to cyclone Hudhud. Though Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has pegged loss to the Steel Plant at `340 crore, the company management stated that the losses could be less than `50 crore.
With the Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (EPDCL) restoring power on Thursday, officials are confident of restarting operations within the next two weeks.
Denying major damage to the units, RINL Chairman and Managing Director P Madhusudan told the company had suffered only production losses of around `40 crore per day following closure of its operations.
'The impact was severe in terms of both operations and environment. Except for damage to the roofs, laddles and other such infrastructure, there had been no damage to the units. We cannot quantify the damage at this juncture,' he said.
