Highways to connect New Capital: Minister ONGOLE: Transport minister Sidda Raghava Rao has said that the state government is chalking out plans to lay highways from different parts of the state to reach the proposed new capital city of truncated Andhra Pradesh in the next five to six years.
Addressing a press conference at his office here, the minister said that plans are on to turn Ongole into a smart city and a special meeting with the district collector and local MLAs would be convened to discuss the plans to improve road, drainage, drinking water supply and other basic amenities in the Ongole soon.
He also informed that the government is mulling to replace the city buses with the mini-buses. 'The RTC will run special buses to the pilgrim centres like Tripuranthakam, Bhairavakona, Mahanandhi and Srisailam from Ongole city during Karthika Masam,' he said.
The minister also said that they are sending the proposals to make several single-way roads into two-way roads with `120 crore in order to provide good road transport facilities to the public in Prakasam district.
