GHMC in power saving mode; Curbs on malls, hotels Hyderabad, Oct 27 (INN): GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar has appealed all the business establishments, shopping malls, hotels and even households to reduce the usage of power consumption.
The Commissioner made this appeal during an interactive meeting he had convened with all the major advertising agencies, hoteliers and various business establishments. He requested them to reduce the usage of power under their limits so as to help the farmers who are very badly in need of the power as their crops are in final stage.
He instructed the advertising agencies to cut short the usage of power for bill boards and major hoardings. He requested them to utilize the power only from 6 PM to 10 PM, wherever possible to save energy.
Somesh Kumar said that the GHMC has taken up a project for conversion of existing street lights into LEDs. The pilot project implemented in some of the areas of the West Zone has been successful leading to saving of nearly 60 per cent of regular usage.
He said that all the street lights in the GHMC would be replaced with LEDs in the coming months after getting approval from Standing Committee.
Responding to the request of the Commissioner, T Nagaraju, President, Telangana Hotels Association, has assured that he would be requesting all the hoteliers in the Telangana state to reduce the power consumption.
The Commissioner said that GHMC was having a database of 10 lakh phone numbers of the households who are paying the property tax, trade license and other civic related issues. Therefore, the GHMC is planning to send them a message to cooperate with the GHMC in saving the power.
He directed all the Zonal Commissioner, Deputy Commissioners and senior officials of all the wings to reduce the power consumption in all their offices.
