TDP MLA's son booked for death of youth in car race GUNTUR: Despite pressure from the ruling party leaders, the Edlapadu policeregistered a case against Vijayawada Central MLA (TDP) Bonda Umamaheshwara Rao's son Siddarth in connection with the death of an engineering student in a car accident at Timmapur village on NH 16 in Guntur district.
An engineering student, Y Vijaya Nagendra (20), was killed as two cars collided with each other near Edlapadu Sunday evening. He was the resident of Krishnalanka area in Vijayawada city.
It is said that the accident occurred when about 10 youths indulged in a car racing event allegedly organised by Siddharth. Though the police are reluctant to talk about the drag race, it is reliably learnt that they have booked a case against two youths who were driving the cars.
'About 10 youths were going to Chilukaluripet from Vijayawada in two cars. After crossing Edlapadu, the cars collided when one of them tried to overtake the other.
An engineering student, Y Vijaya Nagendra, died in the accident. All the occupants of the car are friends and we have booked a case against Siddarth and K Sivaram who were driving the cars,' said Edladpadu sub-inspector Umamaheshwara Rao.
It is learnt that though there was pressure from top politicians not to book the MLA's son, the Guntur Rural superintendant of police asked the Edlapadu police to register a case against him.
Meanwhile, YSRC leader Goutham Reddy alleged that deputy chief minister cum home minister N Chinarajappa himself had called the police and asked them to dilute the case as the family member of a TDP MLA was involved in it.
Even chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu had earlier instructed the officials and the police not to go against TDP leaders. He said, 'We demand that members of the ruling party do not interfere in the investigation conducted by the Police Department. Also, the police should take measures to stop car races.'
