Rains bring life to stand still in Coastal Andhra VIJAYAWADA: Owing to depression in southwest of Bay of Bengal and the impact of northeast monsoon, Guntur, Krishna, Prakasam and Nellore districts in Coastal Andhra Pradesh along with some parts of Rayalaseema experienced heavy rainfall for the third consecutive day on Monday.
The heavy rain led to water-logging and submergence of low-lying areas in Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam and Nellore districts, throwing normal life out of gear. The incessant rains also dealt a heavy blow to farmers as crops were severely damaged in these districts.
As numerous rivulets were flowing with high currents above the road level in Guntur and Prakasm districts, traffic dislocation took place in several parts of these districts paralysing normal life.
Macherla, Sattenapalli, Gurajala, Machavaram and Mangalagiri mandals in Guntur district witnessed heavy rainfall and streams were overflowing at dangerous levels on Monday. Due to overflowing streams road transport was hit badly.
Several colonies in Macharla, Guntur and Piduguralla were inundated due to heavy rainfall and road connectivity to several villages in the district was disrupted.
In Prakasam district, as Gundalakamma stream overflowed at Maddiralapadu on Ongole-Chirala highway, traffic dislocation took place.
Krishna district received 1.8 cm of average rainfall on Monday. A Konduru, Nagayalanka and Koduru mandals received highest rain fall of 6 cm. Vijyawada city also witnessed rainfall of 2 cm.
Due to the heavy rains, Vijayawada citizens faced several problems as drains overflowed and roads turned into ponds as rain water was logged at various places.
Due to heavy rains Prakasam Barrage witnessed heavy inflows. Prakasam barrage received 1.10 lakh cusecs inflows in the morning and by evening the inflows were 68,000 cusecs.
Meanwhile, AP Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced an ex-gratia of `2 lakh each for the family members of the two women who were washed away in the Edduvagu rivulet in Gurajala mandal of Guntur district.
