Education ministers meet fails to find a solution
HYDERABAD: The much-hyped meeting of Telangana and AP education ministers G Jagadish Reddy and Ganta Srinivasa Rao respectively, held here on Monday, ended inconclusively.
The prolonged meeting, which was aimed at resolving the uncertainty over the conduct of Intermediate exams, failed to reconcile the differences between the two governments, with each opposing the other vehemently.
Flanked by his AP counterpart Ganta Srinivas Rao, Telangana education minister G Jagadish Reddy, who addressed the media, clung to the stand of conducting separate Intermediate exams and Eamcet.
Reddy argued that the Telangana government has plans to introduce new curriculum in Intermediate.
Even on carrying out admissions for engineering and medical colleges through Eamcet, the Telangana government insisted on a separate entrance test.
However, the minister said the Telangana government would allow 15 percent reservation for non-Telangana students in colleges as per norms.
'It is impossible to conduct exams jointly for both states since the erstwhile Andhra Pradesh has been bifurcated. Each government has own plans,' he said.
Srinivasa Rao said students of both states would be at a loss if exams are held separately. He argued that it would be difficult to implement common admissions as per the AP Reorgansation Act if Eamcet and Inter exams are held separately.
'AP favours common exams because there are several issues like weightage of Intermediate marks in Eamcet and IIT JEE,' he added.
