'Shaadi Mubarak' guidelines are misleading: Cong MLC Hyderabad, Oct 28 (INN): Congress MLC Mohammed Farooq Hussain on Tuesday alleged that the modified guidelines of 'Shaadi Mubarak' schemes are impractical and misleading and deserving beneficiaries would not be able to get any assistance from the government.
Speaking to media persons here, Farooq Hussain said that two important conditions of 'Shaadi Mubrak' scheme, which is aimed at providing Rs 51,000 financial assistance for the marriage of girls belonging to minority communities, are quite contradictory to each other. As per the modified orders, the application should be submitted at least one month in advance from the date of marriage. Therefore, poor parents would not be able to perform marriages of their daughters at short notices of less than one month even if they find a suitable match, he said.
Further, the last condition says that in cases where the wedding has been performed, the applicants need to submit letter by the Khazi / Gram Panchayat / Church / Mosque / any other authority / Institution which has performed the marriage. This clause clearly suggests that the government would not provide financial assistance before the marriage of poor girls as marriage certificate is issued only after the marriage is performed. The government is indirectly asking the poor parents to borrow money from elsewhere and get the assistance under 'Shaadi Mubarak' scheme later, Farooq Hussain said.
The Congress MLC said that the guidelines are quite contradictory to the statements made by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao wherein he promised to provide financial assistance of Rs 51,000 at the time of marriage. However, the guidelines clearly indicate that the money would be given only after the marriage and only to the applicants who intimate the authorities one month in advance.
Farooq Hussain demanded that the government modify the guidelines further, simplify the procedures and minimise the documentation as poor people usually face difficulties in completing the formalities.
