YSRC leader shot dead by nephew VIJAYAWADA : Boggavarapu Srisailavasu (45), a businessman-turned-politician of the YSR Congress (YSRC) was shot dead from point-blank range allegedly by his nephew at Nandigama town of Krishna district Tuesday.
The incident that occurred in broad daylight at the heart of the town has sent shock waves through the locality and also raised concerns over the alarming rise of crime in the capital region.
The victim, owner of a tractor showroom in Nandigama, used to visit the showroom every morning and spend some time there. His regular schedule helped the killers in planning the murder.
According to Krishna district SP G Vijay Kumar, as usual Srisailavasu reached his office Tuesday morning. Later, his nephew Gunnam Hanumantha Rao along with another man Pasha entered the office and fired at him.
Hearing the sounds of gunfire, Srisailavasu's followers and workers at the showroom who were outside, rushed in. Hanumantha Rao escaped from the scene saying that a television set had burst inside.
By the time Vasu's followers realised what had happened, Hanumantha Rao and Pasha had fled the scene. Later, Srisailavasu was rushed to a hospital where he was declared brought dead. SP Vijay Kumar, who visited the crime scene, stated that financial matters could be a possible reason behind the murder.
However, YSRC leader Samineni Udayabhanu raised doubts over police's version about the murder. 'We are suspecting that police are trying to dilute the case by terming it as murder for financial gain.
They must conduct a comprehensive inquiry into the case and arrest the culprits and also take stringent action to check the increasing gun culture in Vijayawada,' said Udayabhanu.
He also criticised the state government for not taking adequate steps to check the increasing crime in the capital region as the trend will bring a bad name to the place.
