AP govt to celebrate Vanamahotsavam Hyderabad, Oct 29 (INN): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu said Vanamahotsavam will be celebrated as a state function by involving school children, community members and officials. The state government has proposed to plant 25 crore saplings in the subsequent years.
The state government will identify four to five spots in each district to plant saplings. These places will be identified as Karthikavanam areas. One day in the month of November will be declared as a state function and notified as an optional holiday.
The tree-planting drive is part of the government's plan to transform Andhra Pradesh into a green state. Currently, the state has a green cover of 23% and aims to increase it to the desired national goal of 33%.
