Master plan to tackle natural calamities: Naidu
Hyderabad : Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu called for construction of power infrastructure that can withstand massive cyclones in future.
The Chief Minister held a review meeting with Energy Department officials on restoration of power infrastructure in the areas that were affected by Hudhud cyclone.
Keeping in view the difficulties and damage faced by the power sector, the Chief Minister insisted on preparation of a master plan for reconstruction of infrastructure that can withstand any type of natural calamities, considering issues like establishment of an emergency restoration system in cities like Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Ongole and Nellore; laying of underground cable in coastal areas and construction of gas insulated substations in cyclone-prone areas.
Adoption of these measures would eliminate scope for damage of basic power sector infrastructure to the maximum extent and help authorities to restore any disruption of power supply within 24 hours.
The Chief Minister asked power officials to seek advices from energy experts from across the world and consult reputed companies well-versed with power sector in the preparation of master plan.
Secretary in CMO Sai Prasad, in-charge of power sector, told the Chief Minister that the power utilities could successfully avoid fatal accidents due to short circuits, thanks to the timely decision to switch off complete power in cyclone prone areas on the night of October 11 itself.
Ajay Jain, secretary, Energy; K Vijayanand, CMD, APTRANSCO, apprised the CM that APEPDCL could restore power supply in most of the areas of 3 districts and the few remaining places would also be restored very shortly.
