Dattatreyya asks Chattisgarh to provide Power Hyderabad, Nov 2 (INN): Secunderabad MP Bandaru Dattatreyya has requested Chattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh to provide 1,000 MW of power to Telangana State.
Dattatreyya, who met Raman Singh at Raipur on Sunday evening, submitted a memorandum stating that Telangana State has been reeling under severe power crisis, leading to several deaths of farmers on one side and closure of several small scale industries on the other side in the new State. "Even domestic consumers and students are suffering equally from irregular power cuts. As against a demand of 6800 MW, the state is able to meet only 4400 MW from all its resources and another 1000 MW is purchased from others and power exchanges. Even after this, there is a net shortage of 1000 MW," he said.
"I shall appreciate and request you to spare 1000 MW power to Telangana State at the earliest so as to meet the immediate power requirements of the farming sector and others in the State at least for coming three years or till alternate sources are developed by the Telangana State," Dattatreyya said.
The BJP leader also urged Raman Singh to to address a letter to Union Power Minister Piyush Goel to expedite the proposed grid connection from Chattisgarh to Telangana State on war footing basis and complete it within one year, as it is informed that laying of this new line would take at least 18 months.
It may be mentioned that Raman Singh himself invited Dattatreyya to Raipur after Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao reached Chattisgarh. Both the Chief Ministers are likely to enter into an MoU on Monday for supply of 1,000 MW of power supply to Telangana. Sources say that the Chattisgarh CM wanted the State unit of BJP to share credit for the MoU to be signed on Monday.
