Now, Jr Docs in AP blow the war bugle VIJAYAWADA: Taking a cue from their Telangana State counterparts, junior doctors in Andhra Pradesh too have decided to agitate against the government's rule of one year mandatory rural service.
Medicos from Siddartha Medical College, Vijayawada, Guntur Medical College, Rangaraya Medical College, Kakinada, Kurnool Medical College and SV Medical College, Tirupati, will stage protests on Monday.
'We have decided to protest against the government's one year bond of compulsory rural service which is against the MCI guidelines. We are not against serving in rural areas but want the government to recruit us on permanent basis,' said Kranti Kumar, president of AP Junior Doctors' Association (APJUDA).
He said APJUDA had submitted a representation to health minister Kamineni Srinivas on the issue but neither the minister nor the authorities had invited us for discussions.
'Therefore, we have decided to stage protests at all medical colleges except Andhra Medical College in Vishakapatnam. We shall plan our future course of action based on the court's verdict on the issue Monday,' he said.
Kranti Kumar said in view of the ongoing restoration works in Visakhapatnam after the devastation caused by cyclone Hudhud, junior doctors from Andhra Medical College in the city were not joining the protest.
Already, Telangana junior doctors had been protesting vehemently and with APJUDA joining the protest, alarm bells are ringing in the government hospitals in AP.
Snigdha, a junior doctor from Vijayawada, said that instead of improving the medical facilities and recruiting doctors in rural areas, the government was trying to shrug off its responsibility by posting them in rural areas for a period of just one year.
'How can the doctors be made accountable by changing them every year?' she asked.
