Naidu enrolls as 1st member as TD kicks off online drive HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu formally launched the party's biennial membership enrolment drive by renewing his membership online at NTR Trust Bhavan.
This time the entire enrolment is being done online by the party with the help of ipads, tablets and laptops given to the party leaders. The party has set a target of enrolling as many as 25 lakh active members this time.
Doing away with the paper receipt books, the TDP is using tablets for enrolling members with all their details. The data will be available online on a real-time basis, which is probably the first-of-its-kind initiative by any political party. About 1600 IT professionals are being employed for this purpose. Naidu's son Lokesh is co-coordinating the membership programme.
Flanked by his son, while speaking to party cadres, Naidu asserted that TDP would remain intact till history lasts and nobody could demolish the party.
He said right from its inception the party had earned the trust and respect of the people by being synonymous to social and welfare activities.
'TDP is not just a political party. It has always been in the forefront in taking up social welfare programmes and at the same time taking care of the loyal party workers,' Naidu remarked.
According to Naidu, during the last membership drive, conducted in 2012-14, the party had enrolled 18 lakh members. 'This time, our target is to increase the membership to 25-30 lakh,' Naidu said.
'We have set up the Workers' Welfare Fund for the party cadres with a corpus fund of `20 crore, which no other party in the country has done,' the TDP chief said.
Referring to party legislators' recent cross-over to the ruling TRS in Telangana, Naidu said, 'If one person leaves the party, hundred new members will join. TDP will mould its cadres as able and efficient leaders'.
