It's 1 Lakh crore budget for Telangana HYDERABAD: Finance Minister Etela Rajender would be presenting his maiden Budget and also the first one of the newly carved-out State on Wednesday. The Rs 1 lakh crore Budget, as hinted by senior MLA and Minister T Harish Rao well before the tabling of Budget on the floor of Assembly, will not be imposing any taxes on the people of the new State.
'The Budget will not have any new taxes that would be imposed on the people but would be a please-all Budget,'' Rajender said. For Rajender, the tabling of Budget would be a moment to cherish as it is not only his maiden one but also for the new State. Rajender assured that the Budget would not be a mere jugglery of figures but has something to offer for welfare sector.
Meanwhile, well before the Budget is tabled on the floor of the House, Harish Rao made the budget figures open. 'We are proud to introduce a Rs 1 lakh crore Budget in the very House where the erstwhile ruling party announced not to allot even a single rupee to Telangana (region),'' Harish Rao exclaimed.
The opposition parties are all set to train their guns on the ruling party. All the opposition parties including the Congress, TDP and BJP would be targeting the government on its 'failures' to supply power to farmers, suicides of farmers arising out of power crisis, fee reimbursement and other issues which have become a thorn in the flesh of the government since its formation.
The government, on the other hand, will be focusing on its 'achievements' like crop loan waiver and also signing of MoU with Chhattisgarh for purchasing 1,000 MW of power to overcome the crisis.
Simultaneously, the ruling party wants to turn the tables on the Opposition, particularly the TDP, for its failure to raise their voice against the issues concerning the interests of the Telangana State.
The Telangana TDP's silence over contentious issues like power generation from Srisailam and fund diversion are likely to be the weapons of the ruling party to dig into the opposition.
More than 1,000 personnel would be deployed to ensure smooth Assembly sessions. Security inside and outside the Assembly premises has been tightened and the police said they would not be giving any permission to hold rallies or demonstrations nearby Assembly, including at Nizam College grounds.
