Telugu Ganga water for Chittoor TIRUMALA: The state government is contemplating to bring surplus water from the rivers through Telugu Ganga canal for drinking purpose to Chittoor district including Tirupati and Tirumala keeping in view of future water needs of the district. The district collector has sent a detailed report to the government. TTD is also advised to prepare a plan and report the water needs up to 2040.
According to the office of the Chief Secretary, after bifurcation the state government wishes to fully utilise all the available sources in the state and it firmly desires to ensure a permanent solution to the water scarcity.
Tirupati municipality will be the executive authority of the total water supply system and the government will set up a high level official board for the purpose. Compared to the previous two years, this year recorded only 25 to 40 per cent and in the next three to four years, rainfall is expected to become more scarce.
