Modi call to Naidu, Sujana may get cabinet berth HYDERABAD:A phone call from prime minister Narendra Modi to Andhra Pradesh chief minister and TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday over the possible Union Cabinet expansion on Sunday has led to a debate in the yellow party on whether the party would get another berth in the Union cabinet.
When Naidu was participating in the World Economic Forum's 'India Summit' in Delhi on Thursday, he received the call from Modi. Naidu walked off the stage for a few minutes to attended the phone call.
When he resumed his seat, the moderator of the conference asked him about the possibility of Union cabinet expansion. 'You will come to know about it in the next two days,' was his reply.
As the prime minister called up Naidu to inform him about the Cabinet expansion, TDP leaders are of the view that the party might get another berth in the cabinet.
Since Naidu had earlier said if the TDP gets another berth in the Union Cabinet, then he would recommend the candidature of TDP Parliamentary Party (TDPP) leader Y Satyanarayana Chowdary alias Sujana Chowdary to the top post, the buzz in the party circles is that it could be Chowdary.
Some leaders say that the party's lone MP from Telangana Ch Malla Reddy (Malkajgiri) might also be considered by Naidu to strengthen his party in that state.
Earlier, while taking part in the India Economic Summit, organised by the World Economic Forum and the Confederation of Indian Industry in New Delhi, Naidu praised Modi's initiatives and claimed that he had adapted those initiatives in his state.
'Prime Minister Modi is doing extremely well. All states should follow him. Neither my state nor myself have any issues with the prime minister,' he declared. Stating that he was adopting the 'PPP' model to develop infrastructure, Naidu said his government was working on taking advantage of the state's long coastline.
In the evening, Naidu met petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan and finance minister Arun Jaitely. He urged Pradhan to set up a new refinery and a petroleum university in coastal AP.
