Relief to Visakhapatnam as depression set to weaken VISAKHAPATNAM: Residents of Visakhapatnam, who are worried over the formation of deep depression in Bay of Bengal, could now breathe easy. The Met department says that the system which is gaining strength now would lose intensity as it approaches the coast and makes landfall on November 8.
The citizens of Visakhapatnam are yet to recover from the impact of October 12 deadly Hudhud cyclone and the news of formation of the system over Bay of Bengal has had a jarring effect on them for the last couple of days.
Though the deep depression might turn into a cyclonic storm in the next 24 hours, it would gradually weaken as it approaches the coast and finally make landfall. Cyclone Warning Centre (CWC) officials said the deep depression lay centred at 540 km southeast of Visakhapatnam and 680 km south-southeast of Paradip.
The Met officials cautioned the fishermen against venturing into the sea on November 8 and 9, while those out at sea off Visakhapatnam coast have been asked to return. Following the advisory, a distant cautionary signal (DC-I) was hoisted at all the ports along AP coast.
