Case against Minister Narayana in Karnataka BENGALURU: The State Department of Public Instruction has filed a case against Dr P Narayana, municipal administration minister in Andhra Pradesh, for running English medium schools in Karnataka without permission.
Narayana is the chairman of Narayana E-Techno School, which has 16 branches in Karnataka, of which 15 are in the city and one in Bellary. An FIR naming the Andhra Pradesh minister has been filed in Adugodi police station in Bangalore. Eight people, including Narayana and school principal Ramadevi, have been named in the first information report (FIR).
Block Education Officer Munireddy filed the case under Section 420 and Right to Education (RTE) Act against Narayana E-Techno School, Adugodi on Friday morning for cheating parents, the department and the public by running classes from 6 to 10 without permission.
Munireddy told, 'We issued a notice to the school on October 29, but the management did not bother to respond even after seven days and we filed a case against it.'
There was a protest by the parents on Thursday demanding that the management be present and clarify the issues. Since it was a holiday on Guru Nanak Jayanti, the school remained closed. In the evening, the management told the parents that they would conduct a meeting on Saturday.
'Even if they conduct a meeting, it is not concerned with the case that we have filed. As they are running classes without an affiliation and no-objection certificate (NOC) from the state government to set up a school, we have filed a cheating case,' says Munireddy.
Police said the investigation has begun and arrests will be made at the earliest. A senior police officer said, 'The parents of the students alleged that permission was not obtained by the school to conduct classes.
'They alerted the BEO of the division, who checked and found that the school did not have valid permission to conduct classes in English. A case has been registered and investigation is on.'
