Panel on land pooling meets farmers over capital issue VIJAYAWADA: In what could be seen as an all-out attempt to pacify agitating farmers, who had rejected the compensation package offered to them in return for their lands for the construction of the new capital city for Andhra Pradesh, the Cabinet sub-committee on land pooling on Sunday promised them 'statutory guarantee' for the benefits offered.
During their maiden visit to the villages where land has to be acquired, panel members invited the local land owners for an interaction with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in Hyderabad on November 17 or 18.
'You can present your views before the Chief Minister during the meeting and get assurances over the statutory status for the land pooling directly from him,' committee members Prathipati Pulla Rao and Devineni Umamaheswara Rao told the farmers during their visit to Nelapadu and Tullur.
Sources said the government has decided to take a delegation of local farmers, comprising a representative from each village, to Hyderabad to air their views to Naidu.
Addressing the farmers at Nelapadu, Agriculture Minister Pulla Rao said the farmers who part with their lands would benefit immensely. Several sops, including waiver of agricultural loans up to Rs 1.5 lakh in one settlement and construction of houses, would be provided for the villagers who give their land.
