'Ichhampally' will be taken up to solve power crisis: KCR HYDERABAD: A team of state government officials officers will visit Maharashtra soon to clear the decks for carrying out work on the multi-purpose dam on the Godavari at Ichchampally in Karimnagar district to mitigate the power crisis in Telangana, chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao has said.
With the project work stalled, he said, about 720 tmcft of Godavari water was being released into the sea without being harnessed for power generation, he said at a programme held by the state government to felicitate Maharashtra governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao here on Sunday.
'The issue of Ichchampally project is caught between three states. While Chhattisgrah has already promised to co operate with the Telangana government with regard to project, a delegation of officers will hold talks with the Maharashtra government soon,' he said.
Explaining that he has three decades of association with Vidyasagar Rao, the chief minister said with the former reaching a gubernatorial position was the highest honour received by a Telanganite after formation of the new state.
Lauding the efforts of Vidyasagar Rao, then a BJP leader, to intensify the Telangana movement, he recalled that the former had offered him many suggestions at the peak of the agitation and hoped that he would adorn many more illustrious positions in future.
Vidyasagar Rao assured the state government of all possible help for Telangana to get its due share in Godavari waters.
Hailing the efforts of KCR, the Maharashtra governor said every programme taken up by the former was done in a special way for the benefit of people.
He appealed to political leaders of all parties in the state to work in coordination for development of the new state.
