Ramayana theme park proposed at Bhadrachalam KHAMMAM: The proposal for a Ramayana theme park in Bhadrachalam which was sent to the Union tourism ministry in 2013, is yet to get to an approval.
Following a demand from the residents of the town and devotees who visit each year to the temple, the district administration had mooted the idea of constructing a theme park that showcases the significance of the Sita Ramachandra Swamy temple.
In order to boost tourism to the temple, state government prepared and and sent an action plan for the park with an estimated cost of `20 crore in nearly 11.5 acre of temple land near Purusothapatnam village. However, nothing concrete has been initiated so far.
'It is unfortunate that the project is getting delayed. If the theme park comes up soon, the greatness of the temple can be seen by many people who visit the temple from across the country,' a resident for the town, TVGR Krishna Murthy said.
'The park is a good opportunity for people to know how Lord Rama, Sita and Lakshmana lived in the forests during their exile through this park,' Bhadrachalam's temple priest S Swaroop said.
District tourism officer B Suman Chakravarthi said the proposal though sent an year back is still pending with the Union ministry of tourism. 'Once it gets sanctioned, we will begin the construction of the park,' he added.
The Sri Sita Ramachandra Swamy temple at Bhadrachalam was constructed more than 400 years ago by Ramadasu, a devotee of Lord Rama, when he was the tahsildar of Palvoncha area.
According to mythology, Lord Rama along with Sita and Lakshamana lived in Bhadrachalam at the nearby forest area by building a 'Paranasala' (hut) during their 14 years of 'vanavasam' (forest exile), and the temple was said to be built in their honour.
