KCR govt comes under fire over Household Survey HYDERABAD : All opposition parties, including the MIM, took the state government to task over the manner in which the Intensive Household Survey (IHS) was conducted in the Telangana a couple of months ago.
They alleged that there were a lot of discrepancies in the survey. TDP wanted to know what action would be taken against Nizamabad MP K Kavitha for enrolling herself at two places.
The government found itself in a fix and postponed the discussion only to take up the issue again as a short discussion on the floor of the House later. The issue came up during the Question Hour and TDP member A Revanth Reddy who alleged that the survey was undertaken on August 19 by 'terrorising' people.
Pointing out 'glaring lapses' in the survey, the TDP leader cited that Nizamabad MP K Kavitha's details were enrolled both in Navipet in Nizamabad and in Hyderabad city. ''What action will be initiated against those responsible for it,'' he demanded.
BJP floor leader K Laxman and senior Congress MLA G Chinna Reddy also questioned as to why the government had to collect details again from ration cardholders and pensioners if the survey was as comprehensive as claimed.
Stating that 25 percent of the people in Hyderabad were not surveyed, MIM floor leader Akabaruddin Owaisi wanted to know whether the government will make the data public. He suggested the government to set up separate counters in e-Seva centres and a website to collect information from those who could not participate in the survey.
Akbaruddin warned that the MIM will not tolerate if the government sought to target people of Andhra and Rayalaseema region residing in Hyderabad and deprive them of benefits.
Finance minister Etela Rajender said that `20 crore were spent for the survey and the information would be used to identify eligible poor persons for extending benefits under various welfare schemes. He said data pertaining to 1,01,93,027 households was collected in the survey.
With more opposition members seeking clarification, legislative affairs minister T Harish Rao intervened and asked the members to come in a different form as a discussion cannot be had during question hour.
This led to some arguments and finally, Speaker S Madhusudhana Chary admitted the subject for discussion to be taken up later.
Earlier, to a poser from Congress MLA T Jeevan Reddy on self-employment programmes and non-release of government subsidy, finance minister E Rajender said during 2013-14 a total of 269 ST beneficiaries were sanctioned a subsidy of `100.63 lakh in different sectors, but due to poll code, funds were not released.
Further consequent on bifurcation of state, financial transactions of TRICOR were freezed for completion of audit to facilitate establishment of separate TRICOR for Telangana. Once Telangana has its own TRICOR, measures will be initiated for release of funds.
Chief minister KCR said he too was not satisfied with the functioning of banks and proposed a discussion on the issue and to come out with a policy to ensure all eligible people would be benefitted by the SC,ST Tribal Sub Plan.
