Power in about six months: KCR HYDERABAD: The power purchased from Chhattisgarh by Telangana government will flow into the state in five to six months time. Chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, while replying to the supplementaries on the reply to debate on budget, explained how the power situation would improve in the next three years.
Opposition leader K Jana Reddy expressed doubts over constructing power plants with an installed capacity of 20,000 MW within the next three years. However, the chief minister said that with the existing 6,000 MW power, they were purchasing power from Chhattisgarh and also adding new power plants.
The chief minister said the state government purchased power from Chhattisgarh which is a government to government transaction. Telangana Discoms will soon sign Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with Chhattisgarh to procure 1,000 MW, Chandrasekhar Rao said.
The Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) is currently laying two transmission lines one from Angul to Palasa, which will be completed in the next five months.
Another from Wardha to Dichpally, which is expected to be completed by next one-and-a-half-year. The Telangana government allotted 60 acres land for PGCIL in Dichpally. The power purchased will be flowed into one of these two lines. This is likely to take place in the next five months.
Currently, Telangana is facing a shortage of 1,000 MW to 1,500 MW to supply seven hour power to agriculture sector.
However, of the 1,200 MW power plant of Singareni, 600 MW will be operational by mid-2015. Bhupalpally power plant will supply 600 MW in the same time. Telangana state will get 300 MW power from Central Generating Stations (CGS). All put together it will be 1,500 MW by June next. By the end of 2015, another 600 MW from Singareni will be added, the chief minister added.
Telangana will provide AP's share from these power plants. Telangana will also get its share from Krishnapatnam and Hinduja plants. After sharing of power between the two states, Telangana will have 2,600 MW additional power by next year, he said.
