Dharmana slams govt for acting like real estate firm GUNTUR: YSR Congress Party's Raithu Coolie Hakkula Parirakshana Committee toured Tulluru mandal Monday to elicit the opinion of farmers on land-pooling.
Convenor of the committee Dharmana Prasada Rao, along with YSRCP MLAs and leaders, interacted with the local people in Borupalem, Lingayapalem and Mandadam villages. Farmers, who were opposed to parting with their lands for capital construction, approached the leaders and expressed their dissatisfaction over the government's decision.
'There is no clarity over what the government will offer to us. Where will tenant farmers and agricultural labourers go if the agricultural lands are converted into urban spaces?' Venkata Subba Raju, an irate tenant farmer from Borupalem asked the committee members.
After his interaction with the farmers, Prasada Rao alleged that the government is acting like a real estate firm. He further said the government is resorting to unscrupulous acts in the name of acquiring land for capital construction.
'Anger is seeping among farmers in Tulluru mandal. Tenant farmers and agricultural labourers are anguished over the government's apathy and highhandedness towards them. They still wonder why the government needs 30,000 acres for setting up of the capital and how the government will provide livelihood to lakhs of people who are dependent on agriculture. We shall do everything to safeguard the interests of farmers and agricultural labourers,' said Prasada Rao.
MLAs Uppuleti Kalpana, Alla Ramakrishna Reddy, Kodali Venkateswara Rao and others were part of the YSRCP's delegation.
