AP to bring in LED revolution to save 500 MW power

Hyderabad, Dec 14 (INN): Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Sunday called upon the people of the State to take a pledge to conserve precious energy for the benefit of present and future generations.

The Chief Minister made this appeal on the occasion of National Energy Conservation (NEC) Day on Sunday. He said conservation of energy is essential in view of scarce natural resources like coal and natural gas. Besides, energy conservation helps to protect the environment from global warming.

The Chief Minister, along with Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana, Special Representative of AP Government in Delhi Kambampati Rammohan Rao, CMO Secretary G. Sai Prasad, Energy Department Secretary Ajay Jain, has released various kinds of posters highlighting the significance of energy conservation and efficiency and impact of State Government's prestigious programme of providing LED bulbs at a nominal price of Rs.10/- each as against market value of around Rs.400/- through DSM based Efficient Lighting Programme (DELP) on the eve of NEC Week from 14th to 20th December.

Chandrababu Naidu directed the District Collectors, who are the Chairmen of District Energy Conservation Committees, and official machinery to organize NEC Week in a big way.

The Chief Minister said that the State had been adopting a special mechanism on energy conservation on war footing. It has been putting all out efforts to achieve the desired goals of saving energy by implementing energy efficiency programmes like DELP for domestic households. As a first step, it has taken up replacement of inefficient sodium vapour street lights with energy efficient LED lighting system, which has been recognized at national-level. The Centre has also appreciated the energy efficiency policies of AP government and it is estimated that implementation of DELP programme alone will save around 500 MW i.e. 12 MU per day. So far 8.2 lakh LED bulbs have been distributed in Guntur dist in first phase and planned to be extended to entire AP.

Chandrababu Naidu directed the Chief Secretary & Chairman/SECM I.Y.R Krishna Rao and other officials to take steps to replace inefficient/incandescent filament bulbs with energy efficient LEDs in housing sector in a phased manner by 2015-16. He emphasized the need to bring in LED revolution for phasing out incandescent/inefficient bulbs (which has less lighting per watt when compared to LED bulb) and replacing them with Light Emitting Diode (LED) bulbs which paves the way for saving of 85 per cent of energy and enables the consumers to reduce their electricity bills considerably.

On this important occasion of NEC week, the Chief Minister has administered the pledge with officials to spread the message of inculcating energy conservation among general public for the benefit of present & future generations.
