Warangal-Karimnagar to get Tourism boost
Hyderabad, March 20 (INN): Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari informed the Legislative Assembly on Friday that Telangana Government proposes to give a major boost to tourism by establishing a Mega Circuit spread across Warangal and Karimnagar districts.
Intervening on the issue during Question Hour on Friday, the Deputy CM said proposals worth Rs 129 crore have been sent to the Central Government to promote tourism in these two districts. He said that the Centre is likely to spend Rs 88.71 crore while the State Government will contribute Rs 1.22 crore to promote 17 historical places in Warangal and Karimnagar district which include structures like Thousand Pillar Temple and Bhadrakali Temple.
Earlier, Replying to a query raised by MLA Aroori Ramesh, Tourism Minister Azmeera Chandulal informed that number of forts and other ancient structures of famous Kakatiya Dynasty are in existence in Station Ghanpur and Jangaon areas. He said the conservation and restoration of the forts, temples and ancient structures have already been taken up with an outlay of Rs 1.10 crore by utilising the Finance Commission grants. These places will also attract tourists when Warangal tourist circuit is developed, he said.
BJP MLA NVSS Prabhakar demanded allocation of Rs 500 crore for the development of tourism in the areas of erstwhile Kakatiya Dynasty. TRS MLA Hanuman Shinde wanted the government to develop Jukkal Fort. CPI MLA Ravindra Kumar asked the government to spend Rs 10 crore for the development of Devarkonda Fort as tourist destination. Congress legislator P Ajay Kumar demanded that the government restore the Khammam Fort in view of Simhadari Utsav.
