Muniyappa promises to develop Tirupati Rly Station
Tirupati, April 5 (INN): Minister of State for Railways K H Muniyappa on Thursday stated that the railways were giving top priority to upgrade the passenger amenities at Tirupati Railway Station.
Talking to media persons after emerging out of a review meeting with officials in the division along with Chittoor MP N Siva Prasad, Muniyappa said that the railways have spent Rs 7.7 crore towards providing basic amenities in the Tirupati Railway Station in the last three years.
Stating that the railways have sanctioned Rs 4.42 crore to upgrade passenger amenity works, he said that these funds would be utilized to facilitate easy transit across platforms and installation of four escalators at a cost of Rs 2.8 crores during the current year in addition to the existing three lifts.
The major works currently taken up include beautification of station building at a cost of Rs 60 lakhs, provision of additional entry/exit at a cost of Rs 47 lakhs, provision of cycle/scooter stand at a cost of Rs 32 lakhs, augmentation of water supply, micro-processor based LED destination display system and other works.
The minister said that the Empowered Committee consisting of State Level Officials has already approved the plan for developing the World Class Station at Tirupati West.
The State Government has also given the consent for developing the World Class Station at Tirupati West, subject to the payment of the cost of land for an area of 21.3 acres, he stated.
