Banks told to stop sending notices to weavers
Vijayawada, Jan 13 (INN): Minister for Textiles and Handlooms P Shankar Rao on Sunday stated that the banks have been instructed to refrain from sending demand notices to weavers who have defaulted on their loans since the second installment of the waiver amount would be released before March 21.
Talking to media persons after emerging out of discussions with weavers' representatives and Cooperative Society members during his visit to Krishna and Guntur districts, Dr Shankar Rao said that the government has already released Rs 109 crore of the Rs 302 crore of the loan waiver amount in the first phase. The balance amount would be released by March 21, he added.
The Minister said that some banks have issued notices to the weavers who had defaulted on payments, and this was due to a technical error. The 'miscommunication' between the banks and the government has been sorted out and they have been asked to refrain from sending further notices, Dr Shankar Rao said.
The Minister further revealed that he would seek a meeting with Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy to bring the problems of weavers to his notice and asked the cooperative society members to send four members from each district to the meeting.
Saying that the weavers were now regaining confidence in the government with the steps being taken to ease their suffering, the Minister expressed confidence that the Congress party would come to power with a thumping majority as the people liked its policies and schemes.
He exuded confidence that the Congress will come to power for third time successfully under the able leadership and guidance of party president Sonia Gandhi and create a `hat trick' of victories in the state politics.
The Minister statement comes in the wake of Telangana Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao announcing plans of introducing a No Confidence motion against the N Kiran Kumar Reddy government during the forthcoming Budget Session of the Assembly.
