TTD Kalyanamasthu: 64 couples get married Hyderabad, Aug 14 (INN): Over sixty couples were united in matrimony at a mass marriage programme 'Kalyanamasthu' organised by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, in Lalitha Kalathoranam Hyderabad on Saturday. Saturday’s Kalyanamasthu was the sixth phase in the programme undertaken by the TTD.
The 64 couples were blessed by chief Minister K Rosaiah, who was the chief guest, while Union Urban Development Minister Jaipal Reddy, Endowment Minister Gade Venkat Reddy, State BC welfare Minister Mukesh Goud, Health Minister Danam Nagendar, Home Minister Sabita Indra Reddy and others also participated blessed the newly married couples.
TTD Executive Officer IYR Krishna Rao had on Friday said that he expected 100 couples to avail the TTD scheme after the 5th phase in November 2009 evoked poor response from Hyderabad and Ranga Reddy districts due to unprecedented rainfall, floods and political unrest at that time.
The weddings started off at 11.40am in the Tula Lagnam and Hasta Nakshatram on Saturday, in the presence of families and friends of the wedding couples, and devotees of Lord Venkateswara.
As per norms, the TTD gifted the newly married couples a gold mangalasutram, silver toe rings, and a set of wedding clothes to the couple and to an attendant.
Each newly-married couples was also be given a free darshan at the Balaji temple in Tirumala, at a date chosen by them. The wedding ceremony was followed by a wedding feast for the couples and their family.
Over 34 thousand couples have taken advantage of the Kalayanamasthu so for, with 4,658 weddings were conducted in the first phase, 8113, 6373, 7090 and 7724 weddings were conducted in the subsequent 4 phases, respectively.
The TTD has spent Rs 26.22 crore at the rate of Rs 7,700 for the marriage of each couple in the Kalyanamasthu. The next phase of Kalyanamasthu will be held during December this year throughout the State.
