Mayor to check Babu's sway over GHMC Hyderabad, Aug 20 (INN): The peaceful slumber of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation officials might soon be disturbed if things go according to Mayor Banda Karthika Reddy's plans. The Mayor is now increasingly seen as attempting to assert her authority on the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation officials by getting more and more involved with the day to day activities of the corporation.
Ms Karthika Reddy has launched a 'debriefing workshop,' scheduled for ever Monday, as part of her initiative to get firsthand knowledge over the functioning of the GHMC. She has made it mandatory for the GHMC Commissioner, Additional Commissioners and other Head of Departments to attend this workshop.
On the surface, the Mayor has launched the programme to get a firsthand knowledge about the functioning of the GHMC but the fact is that the 'debriefing workshop' gives her an opportunity to directly keep an eye on the goings on in the Corporation.
It is expected that not only GHMC officials but also Corporators will resist the Mayor's moves to assert her authority over them. Among the host of measure brought in by the Mayor, ostensibly to provide better facilities to the people of the Hyderabad City, Ms Karthika Reddy plans to build a Mahila Bhavan in every ward and Community Hall soon. These Mahila Bhavans will be used impart training in various fields to women, with preference given to Self Help Groups(SHG's).
The ensuing 'Face to Face' programme of the GHMC will continue. Besides this, another programme, aimed to get GHMC officials to solve people's issues will be launched. This envisages interaction between the people and related officials where the people's problems will be discussed, and action taken. This will be held every week.
The Mayor also said that the GHMC will soon start “Mana Greater Hyderabad” programme in which she, along with the Commissioner and other officials will visit four divisions per week and enquire about the problems and find a solutions.
The Mayor also plans to start another programme in which all circles, zonal offices, community hall, E-Seva centres will be visited without fail and problems over there tried to be addressed. If Ms Karthika Reddy is successful in firming her grip on the officials in the GHMC, then it the officials are well in for sleepless nights ahead.
