Competition among Ganesh Mandaps Hyderabad, Aug 25 (INN): Deputy Commissioner of Police, Central Zone Akun Sabharwal on Wednesday revealed that a competition among Ganesh Mandap Associations will be conducted to promote organisers of Ganesh Chaturthi to celebrate the festival in an eco-friendly way and perform the Nimarjan (visarjan) without disturbing nature.
Mr Sabharwal said that the competition is aimed at motivating the Ganesh Mandap Associations in Twin Cities and to bring awareness among people about protecting our nature and environment.
He said that Society for Awareness and Vision on Environment (SAVE ) in collaboration with ACT (Aurora Cares for Them) will organise the competitions.
The best Ganesh Mandap Associations would be given three prizes; Rs 75,000 as first prize, Rs 50,000 as second prize and Rs 25,000 as third prize.
The DCP said that the five feet tall Clay Ganeshas are being sold at a subsidized price of Rs 1,000 each and 50,000 small idols are being given away free of cost as part of the measures to promote eco-friendly celebrations.
Mr Sabharwal revealed that Hyderabad Police Commissioner AK Khan would be present along with the volunteers of SAVE and ACT at the Central Traffic Office at Basheer Bagh on August 26 when the clay idols are sold.
