No cause for worry over Charminar: ASI
Hyderabad, Aug 30 (INN): A day after some limestone carvings fell off, Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) experts on Monday said that the historic Charminar is stable and there is no cause for worry about the edifice. Work on restoration of the damaged bits to the 400-year-old monument will begin as soon as the incessant rains ebbs, the experts said.
It is believed that some moss and lichen growth on the minarets of the edifice combined with the incessant rains, have contributed to the peeling off of some of the stucco floral decoration of the historic monument.
The debris from the damaged decorative patterns on the South-eastern Minar fell on the roof of a temple beneath and then onto a car parked there. Some minor damage was reported to the car, but fortunately no injuries were reported.
